“You are born into an amazing machine with incredible abilities and no manual. Do you have any idea of what you are capable of?” (Don T. Bidoux)
The power of predicting the future seems to lie in observations and statistics of the past. However, if you sit in a train at a station and see another train move outside the window, you will not know if your train or the other is in motion.
When you base your actions on probability of success you are using a reference for the expected result, a norm. This is an important use of science, to observe the cause and effect of a process and to create a bell curve for expected, normal, behaviors and reactions. The bell curve illustrates how results of an action will affect most people, those in the middle of the curve. At the far left and right are the exceptions to this norm, the outliers.
If a probability applies to most people, it may apply to you. Unless, of course, you are one of the outliers. Then this bell does not toll for you. At all. If one percent survives a medical condition beyond probability, focus on what they did and do it. If anybody else has succeeded beyond odds in a situation similar to yours, make sure you are the next one. If nobody has done it before you, be the first one.
A part of you is creating a personal bell curve to predict your next action. Consume it with care because every statistic, norm and observation is a dish from the past, and may not be due anymore.
